Dear Students, Parents & Carers,
We are delighted to see that the majority of our students are demonstrating excellent attitudes to learning and are capitalising on the support that is available to them.
We know that many of our Year 13 students will be starting to plan for their next steps after College, looking into applying to UCAS, high level apprenticeships, or employment. Our Careers Team at the College are on hand to offer advice to support their next steps.
Over the next few weeks, we will also be sharing the many opportunities that are available through our enrichment programme, so do look out for these in our future bulletins.
We know that the rates of Covid-19 are currently decreasing in Bristol, and we want to continue to minimise the risk of transmission. It is vital that students keep taking lateral flow tests twice a week, and report the results via the NHS app. Test kits are readily available for students to take home from pick-up points across the college, alternatively additional kits can be ordered for home delivery here
When was the first MP from an ethnic minority background elected? It may surprise you to learn that the answer is 1767! Between then and 1922 at least 12 (new research throws up new names from time to time) MPs from a BAME background were elected. But after the election of 1922, the UK wouldn’t elect another BAME MP until the 1980s – despite the extension of the franchise and post-war immigration. Find out more about these early BAME MPs here
Key question: Why did ethnic minority representation then decline until the 1980s?
We have published our parent handbook on our website. The handbook contains important information about your young person's time at College and also details for logging in to Pro-Portal so that you can monitor progress and attendance from home.
Login information for pro-portal will be sent by email to all parents and carers on Monday 27th Sept.
