TERM 2 VALUE:

Integrity

Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

As we move into the final weeks of this term, we are delighted to see that student engagement across the college has been exceptionally strong. From Year 13 mock and external exams, to fantastic participation in sport, enrichment, and charity initiatives, our students continue to demonstrate commitment, enthusiasm, and generosity. Thank you to all students and families who have already contributed to our Christmas Hamper Appeal. Your generosity will make a real difference to local families over the Christmas period. We are still collecting donations, so if you are able to contribute, these would be warmly welcomed.

Next week we begin our Winterfest celebrations, taking place from Monday 8th December. This festive event will bring together a wonderful mix of seasonal stalls, quizzes and fun challenges. All funds raised will go directly towards our Christmas Hamper Appeal.

We would like to congratulate our Music students on their fantastic Winter Gig performance earlier this week — a wonderful showcase of talent and hard work. The College production of High School Musical will be performed on 9th, 10th and 11th December. Our students and staff have been working incredibly hard, and we look forward to welcoming both students and their families to celebrate their achievements.

On Thursday 11th December, we will hold our annual Christmas Jumper Day. Students and staff are invited to wear their best, or worst(!) festive jumpers. The day will also coincide with our Advent Assembly, bringing our community together for a moment of reflection and celebration.

We send our best wishes to our Year 13 Criminology students, who will be undertaking their controlled assessments during the week beginning 15th December. We know they will approach this with the same dedication they have shown throughout the year.

End of Term Arrangements

A reminder that the end of term is Thursday 18th December, with students finishing at 12:10pm.

The College will re-open for all students on Tuesday 6th January.

Best wishes

Marian Curran

Principal

Thought of the Week:

"Better than a thousand words that are senseless and unconnected with the realization of Nibbana, is a single word of sense, if on hearing it one is calmed." - Dhammapada 100 - Integrity helps us build strong relationships based on trust. Think about how you can be a reliable friend or classmate.

The Chapel is open every day for quiet reflection.

Advent

God’s plan is revealed to Mary through the message of an angel. The plan for God to come into the world to be with humanity. People have lived in separation from God for a very long time, choosing themselves over others, choosing themselves over God. This news brings hope, peace, joy and love! That's what we celebrate in Advent; A light shining in the darkness! God doesn’t give up on us and through coming into the world as a baby, as one of us, we get to be in closeness with Him like never before. The Gospel reading ends with Mary’s consent and full cooperation. May this be a reminder to us that God can enter into the world through us if just like Mary we say ‘yes’.

Young adults aged 16–21 are invited to take part in research aimed at improving support for those facing challenges such as being out of education or employment, experiencing problems with drugs or alcohol, lacking stable housing, or having contact with the criminal justice system. The project offers opportunities to talk one-to-one with a researcher about personal experiences, join workshops with other young adults to discuss how support services could be improved, and share ideas directly with people who design and run these services. POLICIES

✨ Respect the Space – It’s Yours Too! ✨

As the weather gets colder and wetter, we’re all spending more time indoors. Let’s keep our college a clean, welcoming place for everyone. Here’s what we expect:

Pens belong on paper, not on walls, desks, or chairs. 🖊️
Toilet paper = toilet use only. Not stuffed back in the holders, not on walls, not anywhere else. 🚽
Bins are for rubbish – keep floors and tables clear. 🗑️
Treat furniture and equipment like you’d want it treated at home. 🛋️
Respect each other’s space – no mess, no stress.

🤝Why? Because a clean, safe, and welcoming environment benefits everyone. It’s about pride in our college and respect for each other.

Bottom line: If you wouldn’t do it in your own home, don’t do it here. Let’s keep our spaces looking good and ready for everyone to enjoy. 💪

🔊Lost Property🔊

The lost property pile has been growing recently, reminder to check and collect anything you may have lost from reception before the end of term!

Here's some of the items in the pile:

  • Several sets of house keys
  • Pieces of jewellery
  • Earphones/Earbuds
  • Tupperware
  • Water bottles
  • Jackets/Coats/Jumpers
  • Scarfs/Hats
  • Stationary and pencil cases

🚌Remember, if you are travelling by bus...🚌

You must purchase a Student ticket (required for all over 16s) and travel with your Student ID Card.

First Bus carry out routine checks and will issue fines of up to £50.00 if you are found to be travelling using a child ticket or without your student ID Card.

Thank you for your assistance.

❗️ Lanyards ❗️

The College takes the safety of students and staff very seriously. Students should not invite friends who do not attend St Brendan’s onto the site and must wear their student lanyard and ID at all times on campus. (Students should obtain a temporary student lanyard from the main reception if they do not have their ID card with them.) Our campus personal , Frank and Blessing, patrol the site and can be approached if any student is concerned about their own safety or the safety of others.

⌚ Attendance Monitoring ⌚

Attendance is crucial for success, particularly during these initial weeks. For our Year 12, ATL3 and Year 13 students, please be aware that we will be closely monitoring attendance. Maintaining regular attendance is important, as it impacts your ability to remain enrolled on your courses. Should there be concerns about your attendance falling below our threshold during the first three weeks, it may affect your place at St Brendan’s.

We are here to support you through these transitions and ensure that your time at St Brendan's is both successful and enjoyable. Our staff, including teachers, progress tutors, inclusive learning team, careers team, mental health team and the senior team, are here to help with any concerns or queries that you may have.

💳 Cashless Campus 💳

St Brendan's is a cashless campus so please make sure you have a card and/or contactless payment on your phone.
