TERM 3 VALUE:

Compassion

Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

I would like to begin by saying a huge thank you to our student ambassadors who supported our final Open Evening. You represented the College with warmth, confidence, and pride, and your willingness to give up your time to welcome prospective students and families truly reflects the spirit of St Brendan’s.

This week we also celebrated the work of our Creative Arts students, and it was wonderful to see the breadth of talent, imagination, and dedication on display. Events such as these give us the opportunity to recognise not only technical skill, but also the creativity, commitment, and individuality that our students bring to their work.

Looking ahead to next week, our Year 12 Criminology students will be completing their controlled assessments. We wish them every success and encourage them to remain focused, organised, and confident in the preparation they have undertaken with their teachers.

West Of England Combined Authority & South Bristol MP Karin Smyth invites everyone in the local community to attend their Jobs & Apprenticeship Fair

12/02/2026 14.30pm – 17.30pm

South Bristol Skills Academy, BS14 0DB

National Apprenticeship Week 2026, 9 - 15 February 2026

And finally a reminder that the end of term will be Friday 13 February, and the new term will begin on Monday 23 February. We hope the break provides students with a valuable opportunity to rest and recharge ahead of the next half term.

Wishing everyone a positive start to February.

Kind regards

Marian Curran

Principal

Thought of the Week:

“Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” – Psalm 82:3-4 (Judaism) - Compassion is about recognising the humanity in everyone. Reflect on how you can treat everyone with dignity and respect today. How can you show respect to someone who feels unseen?

The Chapel is open every day for quiet reflection.

You can find the Chaplaincy team in room B209, all faiths & no faiths are welcome!

There are lots of enrichment activities that you can get involved in via the Chaplaincy, click the button below to find out more.

Father Thomas Visit

Last week Father Thomas celebrated Mass for us in our lovely Chapel. Prayer time together fuels us for the work ahead!

🏆Service Awards🏆

This week we continue to celebrate those in our community who go above and beyond to serve others. Service Awards are a great way to not only celebrate the achievements but also to inspire others that even small acts of service can make a big difference. For example, Lola has been giving up her time to coach young people in tennis. Sharing her passion for the sport she inspires young people and supports their development. There are many others like Lola in our community so please nominate them so that we can all celebrate them and their acts of service.

POLICIES

🗣️Accessing/Use of Stairwells (C&E block)🗣️

Students are reminded that all stairwells are not areas in which they can sit and/or socialise. This is due to the Health and Safety issues associated with doing so. Recently, and owing to a serious injury caused by misuse of a stairwell, we have had to close down some access routes in C & E block to be strictly emergency access only.

We ask all students to continue to respect this and also to be reassured we are looking to find additional spaces for socialising and coming together as well as encouraging students to make use of existing spaces such as the cafés and sports hall area (open for sports and wellbeing activities and time together at published times).

🔒Site Security 🔒

In order to enhance site security/safety at the college, we will be locking the secondary entrance/exit gates by the new sports pavilion in the times between college coach drop offs & pick-ups ( 09:45 -14:45)

This will allow our security personnel to concentrate on one single point of entry to site that is within line of sight from their position at the barrier.

However, this will mean that for staff/students entering/leaving site between 09:45 – 14:45 the main entrance gates at the end of the drive will be the only access/exit option.

✨ Respect the Space – It’s Yours Too! ✨

As the weather gets colder and wetter, we’re all spending more time indoors. Let’s keep our college a clean, welcoming place for everyone. Here’s what we expect:

✅Pens belong on paper, not on walls, desks, or chairs 🖊

✅Toilet paper= toilet use only. Not stuffed back in the holders, not on walls, not anywhere else 🧻

✅Bins are for rubbish-keep floors and tables clear 🗑

✅Treat furniture and equipment like you’d want it treated at home 🛋

✅Respect each other’s space- no mess, no stress 🫧

✅Toilet cubicles must only be used by one person at a time. The ONLY exception to this being during lockdown where more than one person may reasonably need to use a cubicle to hide🚽

🤝Why? Because a clean, safe, and welcoming environment benefits everyone. It’s about pride in our college and respect for each other.

Bottom line: If you wouldn’t do it in your own home, don’t do it here. Let’s keep our spaces looking good and ready for everyone to enjoy. 💪

❗️ Lanyards ❗️

The College takes the safety of students and staff very seriously. Students should not invite friends who do not attend St Brendan’s onto the site and must wear their student lanyard and ID at all times on campus. (Students should obtain a temporary student lanyard from the main reception if they do not have their ID card with them.) Our campus personal patrol the site and can be approached if any student is concerned about their own safety or the safety of others.

💳 Cashless Campus 💳

St Brendan's is a cashless campus so please make sure you have a card and/or contactless payment on your phone.

🖨️ Print Credit 🖨️

If you need to purchase print credit you can do this on the College “Store” which you can access on our website or by using this link St Brendan's Sixth Form College Store

When prompted to login, click on the “Sign in with Microsoft” option, where you can use your College email and password. Your print credit account will automatically update after payment has been approved.

🚘 Turning Right at the end of the day 🚘

A reminder to all students, parents and carers to please turn right only, when exiting the College between 15:50 – 16:20 at the end of the College day.

Please view this document for directions
