Dear Students, Parents and Carers,
We hope you have all had a good week and are enjoying the sunshine.
We are preparing for an exciting week ahead as the College will be holding a Future Progression Day on Wednesday for all of our Year 12 students. There will be no lessons during this day because we want you to give your undivided attention to participate in activities that are designed to help you explore your career pathway in more depth and explore your future options. During the day there will also be important information about the UCAS process, applying for apprenticeships, and hearing from an exciting range of employers, this follows from the parent information evening we held in May. Further information and updates will be provided to support you preparing for your next steps. Our Careers Team have done a fantastic job in organising this event and we are extremely grateful to all external organisations that are supporting our students across the day and for our staff who will be facilitating some of the sessions. We hope students will find the day beneficial and will make the most of this fantastic opportunity.
Next week we are aware that there will disruption to rail travel as JCQ has just issued a newsletter which you will find here with relevant links to find out further information. This is particularly important for students who will have examinations.
Finally, we are extremely proud of our students who have contributed to an online art exhibition with the theme being sustainability. They have produced some outstanding work alongside other students in other sixth forms and colleges. We would like to thank these students for their hard work and allowing their work to be exhibited and our staff who enabled their work and talents to be celebrated. A link to the online exhibition can be found below.
We continue to wish our Year 13s well in their exams and hope our Year 12s enjoy Future Progression Day next week.
Kind regards
Marian Curran

We are delighted to see our students' art featured in the Sixth Form College Association Art Exhibition 2022. This year’s theme is Planet Future which showcases students’ creative interpretation of the theme, and their reflections on how the world is changing and what the future holds.

Fantastic Negrito
Imagine being a Grammy-winning funk and blues artist from Oakland, California, whose work revolves around black identity, only to discover you are descended from a white Scottish woman. Fantastic Negrito, aka Xavier Dphrepaulezz, is a singer-songwriter whose kaleidoscopic musical approach makes him rather like an African-American Beck. He was researching his family history when he traced his lineage to Elizabeth Gallimore, an indentured servant from Scotland who fell in love and had seven children with a black slave in 1750s Virginia. Dphrepaulezz was so affected by the discovery, he had no choice but to make a fantastic album and accompanying film, White Jesus Black Problems, about the whole thing.
