Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the midpoint of June, it has been another vibrant and purposeful week in college, with much to celebrate and look forward to.

Firstly, we extend our warmest congratulations to our Year 13 students, who have now completed their examinations. This marks a significant milestone, and we are incredibly proud of the commitment and resilience they have shown. As they move into this exciting next phase - exploring opportunities across university, apprenticeships and wider career pathways - we wish them a safe, restful, and enjoyable summer as they await their results. We also remind them that our Careers Team remains available throughout this period should they require any support or guidance in navigating their next steps.

This week has also seen the exciting launch of our Student Union’s first major event: Spirit Week, organised as a Pride fundraising initiative. The week has been a fantastic celebration of community, inclusivity, and solidarity, with students and staff enthusiastically taking part in a range of activities - from “Dress as a Celebrity” to “Anything But a Bag Day”, culminating in today’s brilliantly creative “Crazy Hair/Hat Day”. The Student Union’s bracelet grams have also been very well received by students and colleagues alike, helping to spread positivity across the college. We are incredibly proud of the leadership and energy our students have shown.

A reminder that there will be no on-site lessons on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd June, as we welcome our incoming students for transition events. Current students should not attend college on these days and are expected to continue their work independently from home. The only exception is for student and subject ambassadors who have been directly invited in to support these important events.

We are also looking forward to the Youth Talks Final next Thursday (25th June). This will showcase the culmination of this year’s Youth Talks programme, giving students a platform to share their ideas, perspectives, and passions with an audience. It promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking event, celebrating the power of student voice.

Finally, we are fast approaching our Future Progression Day on 1st July. This is an exciting opportunity for students to explore a wide range of future pathways, including university, apprenticeships, and employment options. The day has been carefully planned around our students’ intended destinations, ensuring that activities are relevant, engaging, and supportive of their ambitions. Students will be off their normal timetable and can select activities that align with their interests, career goals, and subjects via the booking form shared on email and Teams.

With the welcome return of the sunshine and warmer weather, we would like to take this opportunity to remind students and families of the college’s expectations regarding smoking and vaping.

We strongly encourage all students to reflect on smoking or vaping as a habit and to consider their health and wellbeing. However, we also want to be absolutely clear about what is and is not permitted on site:

• Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking area near the security gate.
• Vaping is permitted up the drive only, up to the zebra crossing leading to the main college site.
• Vaping or smoking is not permitted anywhere else on site or in any college buildings.

Any student found smoking or vaping outside of these agreed areas will receive an immediate two‑day suspension, in line with college behaviour expectations.

Thank you for supporting us in maintaining a safe, respectful and healthy environment for everyone.

The College takes the safety of students and staff very seriously. Students should not invite friends who do not attend St Brendan’s onto the site and must wear their student lanyard and ID at all times on campus. (Students should obtain a temporary student lanyard from the main reception if they do not have their ID card with them.) Our campus personal patrol the site and can be approached if any student is concerned about their own safety or the safety of others.

St Brendan's is a cashless campus so please make sure you have a card and/or contactless payment on your phone.

If you need to purchase print credit you can do this on the College “Store” which you can access on our website or by using this link St Brendan's Sixth Form College Store

When prompted to login, click on the “Sign in with Microsoft” option, where you can use your College email and password. Your print credit account will automatically update after payment has been approved.

A reminder to all students, parents and carers to please turn right only, when exiting the College between 15:50 – 16:20 at the end of the College day.
