TERM 5 VALUE:

Dignity

Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

This week marks the final week in College for our Year 13 students.

To our Year 13s: you have been absolutely amazing. Over the past two years, you have made such a positive contribution to College life and, in so many ways, you have helped to make the world a better place. As a year group, you have raised an incredible £3,611 for causes that matter. This year alone, this has included raising funds to support an ex-student with medical treatment, using RAG Week funds to support Bristol After Stroke, contributing to our Christmas Hamper Appeal, raising money for Pride Without Borders, and supporting Off the Record. You have also achieved so much beyond the classroom. We are incredibly proud of the sporting, charitable and community achievements of our students, including:

Team and competition success

Our students have achieved fantastic success across a range of sports and competitions, including:

  • AoC Sport Darts - Southern Champions success
  • Men’s Football Team - 3rd place in the South West Central League 1
  • Golf - qualification for the AoC National Finals in Nottingham

We have also seen brilliant examples of participation and inclusion, including our Wheelchair Basketball Event, which involved over 70 students and reflected the inclusive spirit of our College community.

Elite individual achievements

We are also celebrating some outstanding individual achievements:

  • Riley has achieved 5th place in the UK in British Gymnastics and has been selected for the England squad.
  • Teia competed at the World Cup in Croatia, winning three gold medals. She is a member of Team GB and is now preparing for the World Championships in Italy this September.
  • Ruby has been awarded a swimming sports scholarship to the USA.
  • Gabriela represented Avon Schools in cross country and competed at the England Schools Cross Country Championships after finishing 4th overall in Avon.

Year 13, you have truly been incredible. You have made your mark, and you have made us proud. As you now prepare to move on from St Brendan’s, we hope you take with you the values, friendships, confidence and sense of purpose you have developed here. Go out into the world and make it brighter. Examinations are now underway, and we wish every student the very best of luck over the coming weeks and with everything that lies ahead. You have made a tremendous impact on the College over the past two years and have contributed so much to College life. Please do stay in touch. We look forward to welcoming you back on results day and to hearing all about your future destinations and next steps.

Year 12 Progress Review Day

For our Year 12 students, parents and carers, please note that after half term our Year 12 Progress Review Day will take place on Thursday 4 June. This event will provide an important opportunity for parents, carers and students to speak directly with subject teachers about progress, performance and next steps as students prepare for the second year of their courses. Parents and carers of Year 12 students should now be able to access their young person’s mock examination results via the Parent Portal in preparation for Progress Review Day.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and have a lovely half term.

Kind regards

Marian Curran

Principal

Thought of the Week:

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”- Psalm 139:14 (Judaism) - Dignity is about recognising our own worth as well as that of others. Reflect on how self-respect and self-care allow you to serve others better. How can you honour your own dignity?

The Chapel is open every day for quiet reflection.

You can find the Chaplaincy team in room B209, all faiths & no faiths are welcome!

There are lots of enrichment activities that you can get involved in via the Chaplaincy, click the button below to find out more.

Chaplaincy Enrichment

CHAPLAINCY THIS WEEK

This week in Chaplaincy we have had many exciting meetings to plan future events and initiatives. The Chaplain has met with the newly elected Chaplaincy Officer, the Student Union and other teams in the College to gather student voice, explore new initiatives and plan for the new academic year. In this exciting time, the calendar is getting filled with workshops on prayer and leadership, discussion groups, retreats and many, many more events. We can't wait for these plans to come to life!

🏆Service Awards🏆

This week we celebrate Michelle Hazelwood! She is our Admin Co-ordinator and her inspirational acts of service aren't known to many. So, let's change that! Michelle supports many people around the College with many acts of service, and one of her biggest acts is supporting the Tea and Toast initiative. Each morning, Michelle sets up the breakfast station so that when our staff and students arrive at College, the hot water and toaster are ready to go. With this support, our College community receives delicious drinks and toast each morning, rain or shine. Well done, Michelle!

Nominate yourself, a friend or a member of staff today using the link below to spotlight the great acts of service done and celebrate yourself or them!

POLICIES

🌤️ Reminder: Smoking and Vaping Expectations on Site

With the welcome return of the sunshine and warmer weather, we would like to take this opportunity to remind students and families of the college’s expectations regarding smoking and vaping.

We strongly encourage all students to reflect on smoking or vaping as a habit and to consider their health and wellbeing. However, we also want to be absolutely clear about what is and is not permitted on site:

  • Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking area near the security gate.
  • Vaping is permitted up the drive only, up to the zebra crossing leading to the main college site.
  • Vaping or smoking is not permitted anywhere else on site or in any college buildings.

Any student found smoking or vaping outside of these agreed areas will receive an immediate two‑day suspension, in line with college behaviour expectations.

Thank you for supporting us in maintaining a safe, respectful and healthy environment for everyone.

❗️ Lanyards ❗️

The College takes the safety of students and staff very seriously. Students should not invite friends who do not attend St Brendan’s onto the site and must wear their student lanyard and ID at all times on campus. (Students should obtain a temporary student lanyard from the main reception if they do not have their ID card with them.) Our campus personal patrol the site and can be approached if any student is concerned about their own safety or the safety of others.

💳 Cashless Campus 💳

St Brendan's is a cashless campus so please make sure you have a card and/or contactless payment on your phone.
